March the 2nd marks the Lantern Festival, which is called Yuanxiao Jie in Chinese.
On the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, Chinese celebrate the first festival since the Lunar New Year. It coincides with the first full moon of the lunar year. It's customary to eat sweet glutinous rice dumplings called Tangyuan. Riddles written on lanterns are also part of the celebration activities. The Lantern Festival goes back more than two thousand years. In June 2008, it was designated a national intangible cultural heritage.
