Pro-Assad militia will enter northwestern Syria's Afrin region within hours. That's according to the Syrian state news agency Sana. The move falls under a deal reached by Syrian Kurdish forces and Damascus, aiming to repel a Turkish assault in the region.
Earlier last month, Turkey launched an air and ground offensive on Afrin, targeting Kurdish YPG militants. Meanwhile, the Syrian conflict is being discussed in a conference in Moscow. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is holding a two-day panel with senior leaders from Iran, Syria, the United Nations and Egypt on Russia's role and strategy in Middle Eastern conflicts.
