We start in Beijing. China's Ministry of Commerce has responded to the latest US move to intensify trade frictions. The ministry says China does not want a trade war, but is not afraid of one. It says the country is ready to protect its own interests. The ministry points out the US has ignored China's improving intellectual property protection, and has violated World Trade Organization rules. On Thursday, US President Donald Trump announced steep tariff increases on imports of Chinese products worth about 60 billion US dollars, and limits on Chinese investment in high-tech industries.
