His electoral win made him the first businessman to become president, the first candidate to run a presidential election campaign using personal funds and the first US president ever elected to have never held elected office or served in the military.

The 71-year-old former real estate tycoon and reality show host beat his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in one of the most divisive and controversial contests in living memory. 
Protests have followed Trump since he started campaigning. Critics say Trump's anti-establishment, anti-Muslim, anti-globalization, and basically anti-everything views, have demolished what took his predecessors years to build.

He has withdrawn the US from the Paris climate accord, the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Global Migration Compact. While refusing to let his country take on responsibilities as a world superpower, President Trump has also taken a harsh stance on domestic policy.

Trump has promised to build a wall separating the US and Mexico, issued an executive order that blocks travel from six majority-Muslim countries and in his grand finale for the year, announced in December that the US would recognize the Holy City of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, sparking more chaos in the war-torn Middle East.
Trump now has more on his plate than what he wished for: A rise in white supremacist sentiment, terrorist attacks, his administration's alleged ties with Russia, not to mention his party recently lost a Senate seat in the traditionally Republican state of Alabama.
