China's Winter Paralympics delegation held a flag-raising ceremony at the Athletes Village ahead of the opening ceremony on Friday night in PyeongChang.
Amid heavy snowfall on Thursday, more than 50 athletes and officials from Team China attended the ceremony, which was presided over by Park Eun-soo, head of the Paralympic Village.

A total of 26 Chinese Paralympians will participate in five sports in PyeongChang. Although the majority will be participating in the quadrennial showpiece event for the first time, they sounded both ambitious and confident about achieving good results for China.

An upbeat Xu Congjun who will take part in cross-country skiing, said, “I think I have made a good adjustment. I will try to do my best in the upcoming competition and will try to break my personal best at the Paralympics.”
Incidentally, China has topped the medal table at every Summer Paralympics but has yet to win a medal at a Winter Paralympics. With Beijing hosting the next edition in 2022, all eyes will be on the Chinese athletes to see if they will end that podium-less streak.
