The launch of three high-definition imaging satellites on Saturday marks the beginning of China's efforts to build a national civil space infrastructure system that's scheduled for completion in 2025.
The Gaofen-1 satellites were lifted off by a Long March-4C rocket at 11:22 a.m. from Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in northern China.
These satellites, which have a two-meter accuracy, will be used for disaster warning, ecological protection, infrastructure construction, transportation and emergency response. The satellites will work together with other satellites to carry out high-definition earth observation.
"The launch of these optical satellites represents the beginning of China's efforts to build a national space infrastructure system and will push the aerospace industry into a new stage of industrialization," said Shen Zhulin, deputy head of the high-tech industry department of the National Development and Reform Commission.
"A series of satellites to be launched will form a national civil space infrastructure system featuring a high level of safety, cutting-edge technology and global coverage."
