"They (developing countries) need to play a better role, not only in trade and economic development, but also in rules setting on the global stage," said a Chinese expert on international relations.
Victor Gao Zhikai, director of China National Association of International Studies, while guesting on CGTN’s Dialogue, pointed out the uniqueness of China’s role today and expected China to have a deeper involvement in rule-setting on global stage.
"China is in a very unusual and unique position. China itself is still a developing country. It's an emerging economy."
"However, China, by the size of its economy and by its growth rate, over the past several years and forecasting into the future, is the leading contributor to the growth of the world," he said.
Gao stressed that China is also the largest trading and manufacturing nation in the world.
"Therefore, the country contributing the most to the global growth is a developing country and emerging market, and this is why China emphasizes that developing countries need to be better recognized because of their increasing weight in the global economy."
He said developing countries need to play a better role, not only in trade and economic development, but also in rules setting on the global stage.
Meanwhile, international experts suggest China pursue its growth in a steady and balanced way.
Toshiya Tsugami, the president of Tsugami Workshop noted that "In the past decade, Chinese economy has certainly been the driving force of the global economic growth. If there is any sharp fall down with Chinese economy, that will bring major economic impact for the global economy."
"I think this fact will certainly give big pressure for Chinese leaders."
He said Chinese government shouldn’t be too quick in chasing speed or volume in big projects. Otherwise, there will be a bunch of non-performing projects, which may delay the entire programs.
"So patience is necessary," he added.
