The 21st Shanghai International Film Festival WRAPS UP today, after a whirlwind week of deal signings, panels, award ceremonies and film screenings. This year's event sees the largest number of film screenings in recent years, with many movies from the "Belt and Road" countries. It is also the first time that a Palme d'Or award-winning movie premiered at the festival.
3,447 movies from all over the world were being screened at this year's Shanghai International Film Festival- the highest in history. And 1,300 movies are from "Belt and Road" countries.
With the "Belt and Road" Film Festival Alliance being established this year, organizers say more movies from the "Belt and Road" are expected to be seen at the festival in the future.
It is also the first time a Palme d'Or award-winning movie premiered at the festival.
"Shoplifters", the top award winner of the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, made its world-premier in Shanghai. Directed by Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda, the movie wowed audiences for its delicate portrayal of family life and surprising plot twists.
A total of 28 Asian movies made their world-premier at the festival, along with 19 other movies from around the globe.
Initiated in 1993, the Shanghai International Film Festival has become an annual fair. It was one of the 12 film festivals to be accredited in 2007 by the International Federation of the Film Producers Association. Yang Ran, CGTN.
