Naming Undersea Features: Chinese FM responds to Philippines' objections

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson has responded to objections by the Philippines that China is trying to name an undersea feature which is part of its territory. The maritime feature is in an undisputed part of the Philippines called Benham Rise.
GENG SHUANG CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOKESPERSON "The Sub-Committee on Undersea Feature Names is an international organization that is dedicated to establishing naming standards of undersea geographic entities. According to its rules, all countries and individuals related can submit proposals for naming an unnamed undersea feature located 12 nautical miles outside of its coast. China has always been involved in related work in accordance with international practices and rules. China respects the Philippines rights to Benham rise. We also hope parties concerned can treat related work with a professional and responsible attitude."
