Elite cliff divers created their own celestial spectacle in the northeastern United States on Monday with a series of dives against the backdrop of the solar eclipse.
Timed for the first total solar eclipse seen in the US in nearly 40 years, the photo shoot was organized as a promotion for the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. Australian cliff diver Helena Merten joined male counterparts Orlando Duque, David Colturi and Andy Jones for a leap from 20 meters into a tank of water in McMinnville, Oregon.
"Once it finally came time to go, the four of us climbed on the ladder together hanging out up top and it started to get darker and darker. The pressure is building, but everything kind of melts away because you're just drowning in this amazement that's surrounding you. It was such a cool thing,” said Colturi.
The quartet will compete in the next round of the World Series at Possum Kingdom Lake, Texas on September 3.
