It’s considered to be one of the fastest cycling tracks in the world – Rio’s Olympic velodrome. Since the 2016 Rio games, the 250-meter venue hasn’t hosted a premier cycling event until the Para-Cycling Track World Championships.
Over 170 athletes from 30 countries participated in a competition, held in South America for the first time.
Among the highlights was China’s Jieli Li. She broke the world record in the women C1 500-meter trial, clocking 43.430 seconds. That shaved nine-thousandths of a second from her previous world record. C1 athletes have the most serious impairments.
