Trade Frictions: China condemns US tariff proposals on Chinese goods
[]
Our reporter Sun Ye told us how Beijing is ready to hit back at US products with counter-measures of its own.
LU KANG, SPOKESPERSON CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTRY "The US' practices are a serious violation of the basic principles and spirit of the World Trade Organization. China will immediately report the measures to the WTO dispute settlement mechanism. Meanwhile, we will be prepared to adopt measures for American products at an equal scale in accordance with the relevant provision of China's Foreign Trade Law. We will soon announce the measures. We have the confidence and ability to deal with any protectionist measures from the US."
GAO FENG CHINESE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE, SPOKESPERSON "China strongly condemns and firmly opposes the tariff proposals. The move goes against China's strong representations, and is completely unfounded. It is a typical unilateralist and protectionist practice. The US action is against the mutually-beneficial and win-win nature of the China-U.S. commercial cooperation of the past 40 years. It is also against the appeal of the Chinese and American business communities, and the interests of consumers. It is bad for the interests of China, the United States and the world economy."
