Tonight will see Arsenal taking on Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital for a spot in the Europa League final. After a 1-1 draw in London in the first leg, Atletico hold a slight advantage, but Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is determined to win one last trophy with the club he has led for 22 years which would make a glorious end for the 68 year old Frenchman. Yao Chin has the details.
Arsenal is sixth in the Premier League and needs to win the Europa League to return to the Champions League after a one-year absence. Failing to make it to the final would be a huge disappointment for Wenger who announced two weeks ago, he is leaving Arsenal after more than two decades at the helm.
ARSENE WENGER ARSENAL MANAGER "Look, I don't know what I will do next season. At the moment I think I'd like to finish well my job and I believe as well a man has to give his best as long as he's somewhere with his whole commitment and energy. I would like to walk out of Arsenal one day and think that until the last day, I focused only on Arsenal. When my job is finished at Arsenal I'll see where I go from there, but I want to finish this love story well."
Atletico coach Diego Simeone will be happy if Diego Costa is back to his best after recovering from a thigh injury. The Spaniard scored three times in six games against Arsenal when he played for Chelsea, and Wenger will be wary of the threat the striker poses.
ARSENE WENGER ARSENAL MANAGER "In history, he´s shown that he can make the difference, Costa. He played in England and he was very successful, but it´s our job to keep him quiet, you know? And maybe the best way to keep him quiet is not to play too much in our half and play more in the half of Atletico Madrid."
Antoine Griezmann's equalizer gave ten-man Atletico a valuable away goal in the first leg, and the Frenchman has offered fans some hope he may stay at the club past the summer despite ongoing links to Barcelona.
DIEGO SIMEONE ATLETICO MARDID COACH "We need an exploding stadium, thrilled, full of positive energy, passionate, because that's what we are. So everyone who wants to be with us for what's to come will be welcome. We want passionate people with us, we want people full of excitement."
And while this might be the last time Wenger sits in the dugout as Arsenal boss on a European night, Simeone will be watching from the stands after being sent off in London.
