Chinese President Xi Jinping paid his respects by laying a wreath at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi on Monday.
Former Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh was a revolutionary figure who led the Vietnamese Communists in the fight against the French colonial forces, Japanese aggressors and then the US-backed South Vietnamese.
He became President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945.
Xi, who is currently on a state visit to Vietnam after attending the 25th APEC meeting in Da Nang, paid tribute to Ho Chi Minh in 2015.
Xi arrived in Hanoi on Sunday and held talks with senior officials including General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong.
The two leaders agreed to deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation.
