In the Maldives, parliament has approved President Abdulla Yameen's request for a 30-day extension to a state of emergency. Yameen imposed the original order on February 5th to annul a Supreme Court ruling that quashed the convictions of nine opposition leaders and ordered his government to free those held in prison. The extension hasn't gone down well overseas, with the United Nations, India, Canada and the US all urging the president to lift the order and restore normalcy. Tour operators say hundreds of hotel bookings are being cancelled every day.
