Hungary Election: PM Orban expected to win third term
[]
Hungarians are voting in a parliamentary election that will determine if Prime Minister Viktor Orban will win a third term.
VIKTOR ORBAN PRIME MINISTER & FIDESZ CANDIDATE "We have said everything about what is at stake. The future of the country is at stake. We are not simply electing parties, government, and the Prime Minister but also the future of the country."
Opinion polls have consistently put Orban and his right-wing Fidesz party 20 points or more ahead of their nearest rivals. Just under eight million Hungarians are eligible to vote and turnout figures will be closely watched. Polling stations opened at around six am local time and will stay open until seven pm. Preliminary results are expected to come out one or two hours after polls close. Orban has clashed with EU institutions over his anti-immigration rhetoric, and efforts to clamp down on civil society. But he has drawn other nationalist politicians and those on the far-right who look to him as an inspiration.
