The federal government is behind you. That's the message US President Trump brought to victims of California's wildfires. The Camp fire in northern California is now the deadliest in the state's history. Once again, here's CGTN's Dan Williams.
Viewing the devastation of California's deadliest wildfire.
US President Donald Trump toured what was left of a mobile home and RV Park in Paradise, California.
He was flanked by California's Governor as well as the town's Mayor.
DONALD TRUMP US PRESIDENT "Nobody would have ever thought this could have happened. The federal government is behind you. Hopefully, this is going to be the last of these because this was a really, really bad one."
DAN WILLIAMS PARADISE, CALIFORNIA "In all, President Trump spent some twenty minutes here at this RV park. Giving him the chance to survey for himself the grief and the destruction caused by this devastating wildfire."
The President also visited an incident command post on the outskirts of the nearby town of Chico. Trump used the opportunity to once again call for greater focus on forest management.
DONALD TRUMP US PRESIDENT "We're gonna have our forests very safe, because we can't go through this every year. We're gonna have safe forests. And that's happening as we speak."
The President had stirred resentment among some survivors following his comments on forest mismanagement.
But overall, locals were supportive of the visit.
"Having the President come to our area is huge. As I was saying, it brings the media, it brings the story nationally, and it should help our community out financially to help us rebuild and get our community back on its feet."
"We are the largest fire that has ever happened to California and it's not done yet. And that's the only good thing about him being here. It is drawing attention that should have been here last week."
This is a community united in anguish. The painful process of rebuilding is only just beginning. Dan Williams, CGTN Paradise, California.
