China Flooding: Torrential rains cause severe flooding in southern China

Chinese weather authorities say southern parts of the country will remain under a "blue" warning, the least-severe in the four-tier system, due to heavy rainfall. Officials say heavy downpours are expected in several areas, including Guizhou and Fujian. Sun Tianyuan has more.

A village close to being completely submerged under water. Houses flooded, people stranded. Rescue work and operations going non-stop.

LI YONG, FIREMAN KAILI, GUIZHOU PROVINCE "There were more than ten villagers including the elderly and children. We fixed the boat with ropes, and picked them up."

Many are still coping with the aftermath.

VILLAGER KAILI, GUIZHOU PROVINCE "The flood started to rise around two thirty this morning. Water came into the house after I woke up."

VILLAGER KAILI, GUIZHOU PROVINCE "My father-in-law is more than 60 years old. He said he had never seen a flood as big as this."

Despite nobody being injured, the aftermath has left a scene of chaos and destruction

Miles away in Fujian Province, streets have turned into waterways. Vehicles waiting to be pulled put.

OUYANG ZHEN, POLICE OFFICER PUTIAN, FUJIAN PROVINCE "The rain poured down since 12:30 in the morning. Water levels reached above 30 centimeters. The whole road is submerged."

And it's not just houses and streets. Crops and farmland have been decimated. Rain caused a landslide in Xishui County of Guizhou, cutting off electricity, while roads and clean drinking water for a hundred households, were also affected.
