The International Olympics Committee President Thomas Bach paid a visit Tuesday to the CCTV Headquarters in PyeongChang, the Mandarin-speaking broadcast arm of China's state television.
Bach believes the PyeongChang Games is important for China with the next Winter Olympics set in Beijing in 2022.
The former fencer was given a warm welcome as he entered the CCTV working area. The IOC president then got a behind-the-scenes look at the broadcast facilities. Bach believes the PyeongChang Games will be a good learning experience for the broadcaster, as they will be the rights holders for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
“The Game has been off to a great start,” said Bach. “It shows that you can organize excellent Games by having very different backgrounds. And, therefore, we appreciate the efforts of PyeongChang and the organizing committee very much. And then in four years’ time, Beijing will take a very different approach, benefiting from the legacy of 2008.”
Bach then ventured out on the set where he received a gift ahead of the Chinese New Year. He also offered his best wishes for the Year of the Dog to the Chinese audiences. “All the best China, all the best for the new year of the dog. 春节快乐!(Happy Spring Festival),” said Bach.
