Chinese fighter aircraft passing over the Miyako Strait south of Japan's Okinawa Island on Thursday were taking part in a routine and entirely legal drill, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense said on Friday.

Spokesperson for the ministry Ren Guoqiang said at a news conference that there is no need to be alarmed by the activity and that China will continue to organize such long-range drills.
