China's Foreign Ministry demanded on Saturday that the US stop enacting unilateral sanctions against Chinese entities and individuals, after
Washington said it was imposing its largest package of sanctions to pressure the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
China has lodged "stern representations" with the US over the sanctions, urging it to immediately stop such "wrongdoings" so as not to undermine bilateral cooperation in the relevant area.
China "demands the US side immediately [stop] such relevant mistaken actions to avoid harming bilateral cooperation in the relevant area," the ministry said in a statement.
"The Chinese government has been comprehensively and strictly implementing the UN Security Council resolutions on the DPRK and fulfilling its international obligations, and never allows any Chinese citizen or company to engage in activities in violation of the Security Council resolutions," the ministry said.
It stated that China firmly opposes the US imposing unilateral sanctions and "long-arm jurisdiction" on Chinese entities or individuals in accordance with its domestic laws.
