At least six people were killed, nine people injured and several vehicles crushed when a pedestrian bridge collapsed at Florida International University. The 950-ton, 53-meter-long bridge was erected in just six hours several days prior to the collapse. The "accelerated bridge construction" method was supposed to reduce risks to workers and pedestrians and also minimize traffic disruption.
