Britain's Prince Philip, the 96-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday as a precautionary measure for a pre-existing condition, according a spokesman to Buckingham Palace.
Reuters reported the spokesman saying that the prince is in "good spirits" and he was disappointed to be missing the opening parliament and Royal Ascot.
Buckingham Palace said in May that Prince Philip will stand down from his royal duties.
Queen Elizabeth is set to deliver her speech on Wednesday to reveal the British government's to-do list over the next two years at the state opening of Parliament.
