Approximately 400 dead sea turtles were discovered floating in the waters off the coast of El Salvador on Thursday. Some of the turtles found floating in the water, although very ill, were still alive. These sick animals were transported to local veterinarians who will care for them and see they get returned to the ocean, if they recover sufficiently. Mayor of Jiquilisco, David Barahona, speculated for the disaster stating that "people throw bombs in to fish or it could also be due to high levels of contamination in the area.”
