Fang Fenghui, a member of China's Central Military Commission (CMC) and former chief of the Joint Staff Department under the CMC is suspected of bribery and corruption, Xinhua reported.
Fang has been handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation.
Fang served as Chief of Staff of the People's Liberation Army's Guangzhou Military Area Command from 2003 to 2007. That was the time when he partnered up with Zhang Yang, then director of the political department of the PLA's Guangzhou Military Area Command, who committed suicide two months ago to escape punishment over similar charges.
Fang became the Commander of PLA's Beijing Military Area Command in 2007 and was promoted to the position of Chief of Staff of PLA in 2012, while also being a member of China's CMC since then.
