Italian Serie A: Napoli 5 - Cagliari 0
[]
Over in Italy, table-topping Napoli would travel to face Cagliari. The donkeys sole focus now is seeking their first domestic title since 1990, after their Europa League and Italian Cup exits. In an effort to maximize his offensive capabilities, coach Maurizio Sarri fielded a 4-3-3 formation with attacking midfielders Marek Hamsik and Allan behind a three-pronged attack and it paid off handsomely.
The visitors are on the attack near the half-hour mark, and Brazilian Allan's cut back is fired home by Spaniard Jose Callejon 1-nil.
Right before the half, Cagliari cannot clear this attempt, and Elseid Hysaj'S cross is stabbed home by Dries Mertens and it is 2-nil at the break.
Slovakian Marek Hamsik makes 3 from 18 metres just past the hour mark with a thunderbolt to the corner. That is his 99th league goal for Napoli.
Lorenzo Insigne adds a fourth with a penalty in the 72nd after defender Leandro Castan handled in the area.
Left back Mario Rui completes the rout with a stunning free-kick, from outside the area. 5-nil the final, as Napoli condemn Cagliari to their 15th defeat of the season and stretched their winning steak to 11 games.
So the victors now lead the table with 69 points, 4 ahead of second-placed Juventus. But the 'Old Lady' do have a game in hand. Lazio are third. Inter Milan are fourth.
