For more let's turn to our studio guest, Mr. Cui Hongjian from China Institute of International Studies, welcome.
Both Merkel and Macron went to the US looking to change Trump's mind on the Iran Nuclear Deal, but they don't seem to have succeeded. And with the US president's May 12th deadline getting ever closer, has the EU now lost all hope of salvaging the accord? Can you explain to us the major sticking points?
One of the key issues during Merkel's visit was, of course, trade. They seemed to have reached a deadlock. For instance, Germany wants temporary concessions on steel and aluminum imports turned into a permanent one, but the US isn't happy with its trade deficit with the EU, and Germany's commitment to NATO. How do you see this issue panning out? Could we potentially see a trade war?
