A stunning spectacle on the sea welcomed world leaders and delegations to the 18th Shanghai Cooperation Summit in Qingdao on Saturday night.

The twenty-minute opening show presented a mix of classical and modern Chinese styles, featuring a giant globe as its centerpiece.

The globe symbolized the nation's commitment to a community of a shared future for mankind.

The spectacle included around one hundred performers and a light show incorporating the skyscrapers along the eastern city's Fushan Bay.

Director of the show Zhang Yimou said the astronaut emerging from the globe represents how China has embraced modern technology.

To close out the show, extravagant fireworks lit up the sky to Russian composer Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1.
