2019 World Police & Fire Games: Host city Chengdu welcomes police and firefighter personnel

The 2019 World Police and Fire Games have opened in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan Province. The first Games were held in San Jose, California, in 1985. Chengdu is the first Asian city to host the event. CGTN reporter Tang Bo has more.
A dazzling display of fireworks kicked-off this edition of the World Police and Fire Games. The ceremony showcased several themes of the Chengdu Games, while also highlighting joy and glory.

For the first time in the history of the Games' opening ceremony, a moment of silence was held, paying tribute to all police officers and firefighters that sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. The opening spectacle hopes to draw on a sentiment of showing respect to law enforcement and firefighters. he Games run until August 18th, with nearly 8,400 athletes from around the world contesting in 56 sports categories.
