Heavy rain continues across much of China, causing floods and disrupting traffic. Beijing is seeing some of the heaviest downpours. CGTN's Jenny Cortes Ybanez visits one of the most affected spots in the Changping District.
LIU HAILONG LOCAL "I have lived in Beijing for almost 9 years. This is the first time that I have ever seen heavy rain lasting for so many days like this. Dozens of cars here at the bridge were under water and couldn't even be seen. Yesterday I tried to go to work, but couldn't even get out of our neighborhood. We couldn't go to the market either, and frankly, no one was selling anything. My kid didn't go to school for two days due to the rain. Today was my child's first day back since."
JENNY CORTES YBAÑEZ BEIJING "Now as you can see, a day later, water levels have receded and everything now seems to be back to normal. But now construction is currently underway in preparation for the upcoming days. The workers here have said that this road will be blocked, so no vehicles will get through, if rains get really bad again. The Beijing Meteorological Service has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain and storms today here at the Changping District. They have also reported that from Monday to Wednesday this week, Beijing will see more rain. Today most areas in the capital are expected to receive rainfall of 30 to 40 millimeters. And hourly precipitation may be as high as 50 millimeters. So potentially more disruptions are to be expected. JCY, CGTN, BEIJING."
