As the Shanghai Cooperation Organization grows and expands, its benefits are extending to the people of its member countries, especially the young. In education, culture, sports, healthcare, and disaster relief, the SCO has generated numerous programs. We'll take you on tour on of the flowering SCO cultural scene.
In Beijing, many top universities are home to students of the SCO Higher Education Program. Studying the Chinese language and other subjects, they want to enhance understanding among the SCO member countries. The regional alliance in education so far has involved more than 80 universities across Asia. It focuses on the majors of nanotechnology, economics, and regional development.
In Moscow, the People's Friendship University of Russia is a main institution in the alliance. One of Russia's most global-oriented universities, it has over eight thousand students from 155 countries. The academic degrees are recognized in all SCO member countries.
Last year, the Indian film Dangal was a box-office hit in China and held the national audience spellbound. The inspirational story shed new light on the cultural qualities shared by the two countries. This month, more Indian films will be screened in Qingdao, as part of the SCO International Film Festival. The five-day event will present 60 big-screen productions from SCO members.
The SCO Educational Alliance is the latest innovation in the concept of education without borders. So far, five countries have signed up: China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. In addition, China has signed agreements with Russia and Kazakhstan in social sciences study, publishing, and the music industry. And the Belt and Road Scholarship will no doubt promote student exchanges among member countries.
