As this trade dispute becomes ever more critical, concerns are rising over how it might affect Asia's other economies. Indeed South Korea says it's already making contingency plans should it get dragged into the mire. Quan Chen Chen explains how the country is entangled.
The expanded list of tariffs, especially those on electronics has unnerved Asia's fourth-largest economy.
Seoul says the dispute between its two biggest trading partners could affect its export of what are called "intermediary goods", used in home appliances, computers and communications devices.
South Korea's economy relies heavily on its exports, which accounted for nearly half of its GDP last year.
China is South Korea's biggest market - and more than a quarter of its exports there are semiconductors, used to make electronics, many of which end up in the US.
