To South Africa now where President Cyril Ramaphosa has been sworn in for his first full term in office. At the inauguration ceremony, he listed some of the issues he intends to tackle.
CYRIL RAMAPHOSA SOUTH AFRICAN PRESIDENT "Many South Africans succumb to diseases that can be treated, many live lives of intolerable deprivation, too many of our people do not work especially the youth. In recent times our people have watched as some of those whom they had invested their trust have surrendered to the temptation for power and riches."
Ramaphosa is expected to announce his new cabinet by Monday. The 66-year-old leader was unanimously elected by parliament after his African National Congress party won legislative elections earlier this month with 57 percent of the vote. That was the party's lowest share of the ballot since it overturned apartheid 25 years ago. Yolisa Njamela has more.
YOLISA NJAMELA PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA "Over 30 thousand South Africans came from around the country to be part of this celebration. It's the very first time in a democratic South Africa that an inauguration is held at a stadium. Over the years, the event takes place at the official government seat, the Union Buildings."
From very early this morning, people were streaming into the stadium. They want to witness this historic occasion first hand. Security is tight with over two thousand officers deployed in and around the stadium. A number of heads of state, governments and ministers are also here to observe President Cyril Ramaphosa taking an oath of office as South Africa's president. This inauguration takes place as the country is celebrating twenty-five years of democracy. And as the world marks Africa Day.
PHUMLA WILLIAMS, DEPUTY DIRECTOR-GENERAL S. AFRICAN GOVT. COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION SYSTEM "The fact that the president of this country is inaugurated on this historic day, it just sets the tone of where South Africa is trying to move into. We are part of Africa, we will be celebrating Africa, and we will be celebrating our president who will be saying to the nation - I am ready to serve."
After this ceremony, it's down to business as president Cyril Ramaphosa will be announcing his cabinet.
