Time to check out some of the other medal events from Friday. The Dutchwoman trying to outduel defending champion and world record holder Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic.
Visser would clock six minutes and 50.23 seconds to become the second Dutchwoman to win this event. Yvonne van Gennip's won in Calgary in 1988. The 22-year-old is also the second-youngest athlete to win this event. Sablikova settles for silver. The bronze goes to Olympic Athlete From Russia, Natalia Voronina.
Dario Cologna of Switzerland becomes the first cross-country skier to win the same individual event three times in a row, by claiming the men's 15km cross country. The 31-year-old clocks 33 minutes and 43.9 seconds to take his fourth overall Olympic gold, beating Norway's Simen Hegstad Krueger. Denis Spitsov, of the Olympic Athletes From Russia takes the bronze medal.
Italy's Michela Moioli wins the women's Olympic snowboard cross title after dominating the event throughout the World Cup season. French 16-year-old Julia Pereira De Sousa is a surprise silver medalist after struggling to qualify for the final. Defending champion Eva Samkova of the Czech Republic collects bronze.
Swedish Alpine skier Frida Hansdotter is crowned the winner in women's slalom, while defending champion Mikaela Shiffrin has a disappointing afternoon, finishing in fourth. Hansdotter posts a time of 1 minute and 38.63 seconds over two runs. Wendy Holdener of Switzerland takes second, 0.05 seconds behind. The third position belongs to Austrian Katharina Gallhuber.
As for the medal table, Germany tops the standings with 9 gold, Norway is second with 6 gold and 8 silver, the Netherlands have the same top-place finishes as the Norewgians, but have less silvers. The United States has 5 gold to sit fourth, and Canada is fifth. China now have four medals overall.
