The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee decided on Friday that the second plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee will be held on Jan. 18-19 in Beijing. 

The decision was made at a meeting of the Political Bureau chaired by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

The Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday deliberated the report of the proposal on amending part of China's Constitution and the draft amendment will be submitted to the second plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee.

The meeting stressed that China's Constitution is the fundamental law of the state, and that the present one is a good constitution that accords with the national conditions, conforms to reality and meets the developmental requirements.

The Communist Party of China attaches great importance to the status and role of the constitution in governing the country, and is taking a series of measures to provide a strong political and institutional guarantee for the implementation of the constitution.

The meeting also stressed that the series of policies, principles and rules established by the present constitution have a significant advantage, a solid foundation and a strong vitality, which must be carried out in the long-term.

The meeting also noted that a constitutional amendment is a great event in national politics, giving full play to the important role of the constitution in advancing the rule of law in all areas and modernizing national governance system and capacity. Appropriate amendment to the constitution will be based on the major theoretical, practical and institutional innovations achieved by the party and the people in practice.

The amended constitution must fully represent Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, adhering to Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the Theory of Three Represents, and the Scientific Outlook on Development. Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the integration of the Party leadership, the position of the people as masters of the country, and the rule of law should be the directions for the constitutional amendment. 

The constitution being amended should be the fundamental guarantee of the achievement of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the two centenary goals.

Adhering to the Party's leadership and Socialism with Chinese characteristics, maintaining the correct political orientation and following the procedures strictly in accordance with the law are the principles for the constitutional amendment. 

The amendment should also guarantee the continuity, stability and authority of the constitution.
