The 2019 edition of China's Government Work Report was approved by the National People's Congress Friday, following minor amendments. The report's drafting team says the changes taken reflect the nation's most urgent needs. CGTN's Sun Ye has more.
China's government work report picks up an additional 800 words after suggestions come in from NPC deputies and CPPCC members over the last two weeks. The report now stresses a better business environment. Drafting team member GUO WEI says that was already a focal point in the draft.
GUO WEI DEPUTY DIRECTOR, STATE COUNCIL RESEARCH OFFICE "We dwell so much on bettering the business environment for one goal: giving market entities vitality. We are facing downward pressure as well as uncertainties in the economy. And the way to ensure stability and growth in this climate is NOT a loose monetary policy, but an active market economy."
The revised report promises fewer restrictions for businesses as well as a national service platform to help streamline procedures.
The report also added content in elderly care, from more concrete demands in infrastructure to better services in nursing care.
GUO WEI DEPUTY DIRECTOR, STATE COUNCIL RESEARCH OFFICE "We now count 'elderly care' as many as 16 times in the report. It's everyone's concern. And China has 250 million people over 60, so we prioritize issues with our aging society."
Every year, suggestions for the government work report are taken during the two sessions, examined and reported to Premier Li Keqiang before submission to the NPC. Guo says the goal is for it to address the biggest concerns of the Chinese population.
