Presidium of 19th CPC National Congress approves delegates and agenda

The presidium of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held a meeting on Tuesday to approve delegates and the agenda.  Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee made a keynote speech during the meeting, which took place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Presided over by Liu Yunshan, secretary-general of the 19th CPC National Congress, the meeting approved a list of the presidium’s 42-member Standing Committee.
Afterwards, presided over by Xi Jinping, the meeting went through specific items on the agenda. Liu Qibao, Meng Jianzhu, Zhao Leji and Li Zhanshu were approved as deputy secretaries-general of the National Congress.
The meeting then approved a report on the review of the delegates’ qualifications by the credentials committee.
According to the report, a total of 2,287 delegates have been elected from electoral units. After examination, 2280 Party delegates were eligible for the 19th CPC National Congress.
The report states that the election of the delegates started in November 2016 with 99.2 percent of the Party members taking apart. The electoral units conducted their mission strictly according to the election system and standard. During the election process, local Party committees listened to suggestions from both grassroots organizations and Party members.
According to the document, the delegates are broadly representative of all the Party members. The delegates of  the 19th CPC National Congress have better education backgrounds, and include more people from the frontline of production. There is also an increasing proportion of female delegates and delegates from ethnic minority groups.
During the meeting, 74 specially invited delegates were approved. They will have the same rights as the delegates.
More than 550 non-voting delegates and guests were also approved.
The meeting also passed the draft of the measures for electing the 19th CPC Central Committee, which will be further discussed by the delegates.
Finally, the presidium passed the agenda of the week-long Congress, which will begin on Wednesday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, and last till October 24.
