In the wake of the fire that engulfed the Notre-Dame Cathedral, concerns have been raised about the safety of Cultural heritage in London. Hannah Hoexter looks at the lessons that might be learned from this disaster.
HANNAH HOEXTER LONDON "Like Paris, London also has some old and treasured buildings. I'm standing here in central London in front of Westminster Abbey. Behind me is Westminster Abbey currently undergoing extensive renovation. Royal watchers will recognise it from prince William's wedding. Over the road is the Houses of Parliament also undergoing building work. Behind the scaffolding is Big Ben. And across the whole building extensive work. Some parts date from 1099. Earlier I've been speaking to an expert in the field who says it's risky but vital to the longevity of these buildings."
A parliamentary spokesperson linked to the work that's underway here in London, told CGTN they are doing all they can to ensure the renovations run smoothly. Clearly though, as Monday evening proved, catastrophes can strike the most sacred places, causing distress to those who hold them dear sending a shockwave across the world. HHO, CGTN, LONDON.
