Twenty-five Chinese companies are among those participating in the 51st annual Farnborough International Air Show near London. The Chinese companies are especially welcome guests because of Brexit and ongoing global trade tensions. Xi Jia has the story from Farnborough.
25 Chinese aerospace companies - 8 times as many as last year - are a part of the world's top airshow in Farnborough, England. It's where HNA Group has just agreed to buy 20 ARJ21 jets from Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, or COMAC. The ARJ21 aircraft is China's first turbofan regional jet developed with international standards.
YANG YANG, DEPUTY GENERAL MANAGER MARKETING & SALES DEPARTMENT, COMAC "The ARJ21 is a very important part of the Chinese-made aircraft. Although it is a regional jet, it meets the standards of most international airliners. Its successful performance on the market will be of great significance for the C919 and CR929 in terms of improving technology on airlines."
CASIC is also a competitive exhibitor at the Farnborough International Airshow. They offer the service of sending a small satellite into Low Earth Orbit. Domestic and international customers like its high reliability, high precision and affordability.
AMANDA STAINER, COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR FARNBOROUGH AIR SHOW "We have increased by 70% of Chinese participation at this show which we really welcome. I am delighted that you know first time join us is CASIC, because it's great to have a Chinese presence in our space sector, I am really hoping to grow on that for that what they participate even more moving forward. It's really exciting to have them here."
Fast becoming one of the most potential aviation markets worldwide, China will have more than 500 airports and 5,000 general aircraft by 2020.
LIU XIAOMING CHINESE AMBASSADOR TO THE UK "This is my second time to the Farnborough Airshow, I remember when I was first here in 2014, there were only 3 Chinese aerospace companies presenting their products, but this time, there are 25. So it's not only Chinese companies' interest in Farnborough, but shows of developments of China UK collaboration in aviation industries."
XI JIA FARNBOROUGH, ENGLAND "Sharing the latest achievements and blueprints in space technology, Chinese aerospace companies are willing to become active partners within multilateral trading system, despite facing many challenges. Xi Jia CGTN, Farnborough, UK."
