Professor Zhong from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences thinks that Taiwan is very important to the US because the latter will sell secondhand weapons to Taiwan. Arms sales matter greatly to their relations; however, the significance of Taiwan to the US is decreasing. Zhong notes that the US will abandon Taiwan in the near future. Furthermore, the Trump administration regards Taiwan as playing a pivot role in its Indian-Pacific Strategy.
