Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Wednesday hailed the five years since the 18th CPC National Congress as “truly remarkable” for both the Party and the country’s course of development.
Xi made the remarks at the opening session of the 19th CPC National Congress in Beijing while delivering a work report titled, “Secure a Decisive Victory in Building a Moderately Prosperous Society in All Respects and Strive for the Great Success of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.”
The report outlined the following achievements in the past five years:
- Major milestones in economic development
- Major breakthroughs in deepening reform
- Major steps in developing democracy and the rule of law
- Significant advances on the theoretical and cultural fronts
- Improved living standards
- Notable progress in building an ecological civilization
- Initiation of a new stage in strengthening and revitalizing the armed forces
- Progress in work related to Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan
- Progress in China’s diplomacy on all fronts
- Remarkable outcomes in ensuring full and strict governance over the Party
