Electronics ban on flights lifted for Turkish airlines

A three-month-long ban on taking electronic devices such as laptops into aircraft cabins on flights from Turkey to the US was lifted on Wednesday, reported Reuters citing the private Dogan News Agency.
It said flagship carrier Turkish Airlines accepted passengers with electronic devices onto its flight from Istanbul's Ataturk Airport to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday morning.
The ban, which prohibited electronics devices larger than a smartphone from the cabin on several airlines flying from the Middle East to the US, came into effect in late March with an attempt to address the fears of bombs being taken abroad by being concealed in electronic devices.
Ten airports in eight Middle East countries including Abu Dhabi's Etihad, Turkish Airlines and Emirates had been affected by the ban.
The in-cabin laptop ban was lifted for Etihad Airways on July 2 by the US's Department for Homeland Security (DHS) because of the implementation of additional security measures.
