Revellers in Thimi, Nepal, painted the town red on Sunday for the Sindoor Jatra festival as they hurled sindoor, or vermilion powder, at each other. The unique festivities were part of the Nepali New Year celebrations and also marked the beginning of the spring season. /VCG Photo
Devotees also carried 32 palanquins containing the images of different Hindu gods around the town, while others sang and danced to the rhythm of traditional drums. /VCG Photo
The sindoor is a symbol of purity in Nepali culture. People offer this powder to honor gods and apply a red dot on their foreheads in return after visiting temples. /VCG Photo
The festival is a tourist attraction. /VCG Photo
