"Global Innovation and High-Quality Development." The theme of the 2018 ZGC Forum ushers guests into the tenth year of the annual event. From artificial intelligence to blockchain, experts say forum-goers will be impressed. Victor Ning has a preview.
Leaders of the tech world gather in Zhongguancun. This year's ZGC Forum focuses on entrepreneurship and the future of technology and science. Known as "China's Silicon Valley", Beijing's Zhongguancun area has given rise to many of China's tech giants.
LEI JUN CHAIRMAN OF XIAOMI TECHNOLOGY "We should encourage entrepreneurs to invest their wealth in start-up companies. This is not just an investment of money, but also experiences and resources, as well as valuable guidance."
Many keynote speakers at the forum agree that global collaboration is key to fostering innovation. However, some say the ongoing trade tensions are reason to worry.
SIR PETER BONFIELD CBE, FREng CHAIRMAN OF NXP SEMICONDUCTOR NV "The trade tensions we see today may not only impact international trade, but also global innovation. Protectionism in the name of innovation makes no sense; it is cooperation, on a global scale, that is the source of and will help drive innovation."
The CEO of Bonfield's company met with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang during Li's October visit to the Netherlands. Looking ahead, he shares his vision of the future pertaining to technology and partnerships.
SIR PETER BONFIELD CBE, FREng CHAIRMAN OF NXP SEMICONDUCTOR NV "Artificial Intelligence is everything; internet of things IOT, big data, perfect speech recognition, Quantum computing, new materials, new architectures, block chains etc. The list is long. The UK is a leading innovator in AI and Big Data. China has some of the biggest data sets in the world, and impressive data-driven companies too. There is lots of room for partnership."
Speakers also say cross-sector cooperation as well as talent cultivation might bring even more potential for innovation. Victor Ning, CGTN.
