A lecture and screening activity has been held at China Central Academy of Fine Arts, focusing on Italian film and video art since the 1960s. It is part of the Meet in Beijing Art Festival. Ding Siyue has more.
How have Italian artists experimented with moving images since the 1960s?
The question can only be answered with an extensive historical survey consisting of four long screening programs totalling about eight hours.
The survey is named "Double Screen".
The screening lasts for two days with 64 pieces of films, videotapes and digital works showing to the public.
This selection is curated by Bruno Di Marino. He chose a diachronic approach for the survey by presenting the development of cinema and art video in a series of programs.
The screening brings audiences with many experimental and avant-garde films during different periods in Italy. Like this piece "Filmarilyn" by Paolo Gioni in the 1990s, which is made from pictures of Marilyn Monroe.
The event is hosted by China Central Academy of Fine Arts and Italian Institute of Culture.
One of the curators Rosario Scarpato has been in China for over 25 years and has always been keen in bringing Italian culture to China.
The annual Meet in Beijing art festival is in its 18th year and features Italy as the guest of honor. It provides a great opportunity for boosting cultural exchanges between the two sides.
