China and Mauritius signed on Tuesday a MOU to initiate free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations, said a statement from China's Ministry of Commerce.
The two countries started a joint feasibility study on the FTA in November last year, which is the first such research China launched with African countries, the statement said, noting the research results showed that both sides can benefit from a FTA.
If the China-Mauritius FTA launches, as the first between China and an African country, it will further promote China and Africa relationship and Belt and Road Initiative in Africa.
China is the second largest trade partner of Mauritius and also its biggest import source.
