The China-US trade standoff may be helping business matters elsewhere. The 13th EU-China Business and Technology Cooperation Fair is now underway in the southwestern Chinese city of Chengdu. In an economy rife with uncertainty, China and its European partners are making things happen. CGTN's Yang Jinghao has more.
A new type of wind power generator with six proprietary technologies. This is what Chen Hui has devoted the past eight years to. Now his invention is about to go into mass production, and Chen just started searching for a market both at home and abroad.
CHEN HUI, FOUNDER SICHUAN LYUYUAN TECHNOLOGY COMPANY "After mass production, we will try to bring this product to the European market through partnerships with some companies there. Europe will be our major target market."
Now Chen is moving closer to his blueprint. During the ongoing Europe-China Business and Technology Cooperation Fair in Chengdu, Chen shook hands with several European company representatives. The annual event attracts hundreds of enterprises from China and some 20 European countries. Attendees come from such areas as modern agriculture, bio-pharmaceuticals, new energy and environmental protection sectors.
SERGEY KALYUZHNYV CHIEF SCIENTIST OF RUSNANO "I think China has made big progress in the field of nano-electronics and other electronic devices. I'm looking for interesting projects for development in Russia, for utilization of some products and development of new products."
MICHAEL KRANZ, CEO MATCHBIRD, GERMANY "We met some people with absolutely fantastic ideas, and they fit for the European and US markets. So this is what we're looking for, not cheap suppliers. We look for business collaboration on a high level, win-win situations."
YANG JINGHAO CHENGDU "The EU has been China's largest trading partner for 14 consecutive years, and China is the bloc's second largest trading partner. As China pledges wider market access, the two sides are expected to deepen bilateral trade relations amid rising protectionism."
EU officials say as natural partners, China and European countries should learn from each other and more importantly, further open up to each other, especially at a difficult time for the world's economy.
ELZBIETA BIENKOWSKA EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER "We need openness as I repeated a few times during the visit. The European Union economy is an open economy, we will not, we don't want, do not intend to build new walls. We want to be open economy, we think globalization is a good thing."
With "new economy" a highlight of this year's event, participants also had extensive exchanges on high-tech and trending products. They believe that innovation will be a new impetus for further cooperation between the two large economies. Yang Jinghao, CGTN, Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
