The heat is on across much of China. So much so, that some authorities are warning residents to stay indoors when possible and to make sure children and the elderly aren't over-exposed to the searing temperatures. Liu Xinqing has more on the extreme heat from the capital of Henan province.
When it's unbearably hot outside, one of the only places to have fun seems to be in the water. On this scorching summer day, tens of thousands of tourists have gathered in Fantawild, the largest water park in central China's Henan province. It's also one of the most popular places to go to escape the summer heat.
WEI YUANYUAN TOURIST, FANTAWILD "It's so hot outside, so I came to the waterpark to cool down a little bit. It's very exciting. Especially during surfing season, when waves are good, I feel like I am flying up into the sky."
Experts advise having fun while staying cool. As temperatures in central China are at record highs, more and more tourists are coming to enjoy the cool water. Extremely high temperatures have triggered a yellow alert in China's central Henan province.
LIU XINQING ZHENGZHOU, HENAN PROVINCE "JUST put the thermometer outside for three minutes, the mercury can jump to over 40 degrees Celsius. That's unbearably hot for most people. Seeing that we are only a few days into the summer season, you can expect a sweltering next couple of months."
It could be a long summer too. Especially for outdoor workers who have to work against the scorching sun.
DENG SHUMEI DELIVERY WORKER "One's defenses against the heat wave are very limited, a shed, a mask, a hat, that's all I have. Many people are working in such burning hot, not only us, you are also out working in the sun."
According to the national weather forecast, this round of high temperatures will continue well into next week. Experts say, for those who can't stay away from the scorching weather while at work, prevention of heat stroke is key. Everyone is advised to drink lots of water, take cover from direct sunshine, and prepare some medicine in case of an emergency. In other words, if you can't stay indoors, take proper precautions to beat the heat. Liu Xinqing, CGTN, Zhengzhou, Henan Province.
