French Defense Minister Goulard resigns over fake jobs scandal

French Defense Minister Sylvie Goulard has announced her resignation over a fake jobs scandal on Tuesday. Goulard said she could not remain in the government while there was a possibility that she could be investigated over alleged misuse of expenses at the parliament.
Goulard also said she did not want to be considered in the coming reshuffle as the investigation hits her centrist MoDem party, which is allied with President Emmanuel Macron's party.
Macron appointed members from several parties as his ministers after he was elected president in May. His En Marche party won a big majority in Sunday’s legislative election, and will not need the votes of MoDem lawmakers to get legislation through parliament.
