A group of Chinese farmers in east China's Shandong Province made a national flag with 680 jin (340kg) of red dates on Saturday to celebrate the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which falls on Oct.1.
The farmers from Xiewu village of Zaozhuang City also used 68 jin (34kg) of corns and 6.8 jin (3.4kg) of cotton to decorate the flag with stars and form the margins.
The flag, which is 12 meters long and eight meters wide, covers an area of 96 square meters, representing China's national territory of 9.6 million square kilometers.
This year the farmers in Yinping Town planted 2,133 hectares of red dates, creating an output value of more than 200 million yuan (about 30 million U.S. dollars).
